palera1n
Purpose: the modern successor to checkra1n for checkm8-vulnerable hardware. It extends jailbreak support to iOS 15 and later on older devices, in rootless or rootful modes depending on version.
| Devices | A8–A11 devices (including iPhone 6–X range) plus Apple T2 Macs |
|---|---|
| iOS versions | iOS/iPadOS 15.0 and later on supported hardware (confirm the exact build on the official site) |
| Tether | Semi-tethered: a computer is needed after restart |
| Computer | macOS or Linux; Windows via a bootable USB workflow documented by the project |
Limitations
- Hardware-limited: A12 and newer iPhones are not checkm8-vulnerable, so palera1n does not cover them at all.
- Developer-oriented and command-line based — not a one-click consumer unlocker.
- Does not remove Activation Lock, carrier lock, or MDM enrolment on a device you do not own or administer.
- Jailbreaking changes the security model of the device. Back up first, and do not use a jailbroken daily phone for banking or sensitive accounts without understanding the risk.
What this tool cannot do
It cannot turn a locked second-hand phone into a normal phone, and it cannot bypass Apple's server-side account link. If a seller or site claims otherwise, see how to spot fake bypass tools.
